Pastor Jamien PhillipsPastor: Missions, Media Ministry
Jamien Phillips attended Stephen F. Austin State University. There, his first area of study was mathematics minoring in finance under the guidance of the late Dr. Jasper Adams. The summer following Dr. Adams’s passing, Coach Phillips bumps into a friend in the parking lot outside the Steen Library with a “big but extra-extra skinny suitcase/luggage bag thingamajig”. The friend pulls out a sheet of paper just as big as this “big but extra-extra skinny suitcase/luggage bag thingamajig” and shows Phillips his drawings. That moment impacted his life thus leading to the change of study from mathematics into obtaining his Bachelor of Arts majoring in Studio Art: Drawing with a minor in General Business. Passionate about realistic and hyper realistic drawings, the move was a natural fit. With encouragement from the late great Gary Q. Fields, Phillips begins to look into teaching.
Coach Phillips has been a part of the education of the Nacogdoches area since 2011, starting off with GETCAP: Head Start before being invited into the NacISD family in the spring of 2012. He is certified in Art K-12, and is currently in his fourth contract with the district serving as the art teacher at Mike Moses, as well as coaching football, basketball, and track & field.
“Whoso findeth a wife findeth a good thing, and obtaineth favor of the Lord.” Blessed with the covenant of marriage with Debra (whom he met while in college), they have two lovable children: Tiana and Jamien Jr. Outside of Nac ISD, Coach Phillips served as the Student Pastor at Nacogdoches Bible Fellowship from 2015 to 2019. He believes that WITH God as his mobile, those within his circle of influence shall be blessed with an experience of and from God. He believes in the absolute divine truth of the Lord and the teaching thereof is most effective when language barriers is broken down between people so that there is an understanding. His vision for the Missions is to galvanize the people into serving as the hands and feet of God, “witnessing to others about Jesus Christ in Jerusalem (locally), and in all Judaea (regionally), and in Samaria (nationally), and unto the uttermost part of the earth (globally).”
